There are no shortcuts.
Hard work is the foundation on which success is found.
Talent, luck, and other external support surely have their roles; however, consistent and dedicated effort, which also refers to hard work, is the most reliable path to achieving meaningful and lasting success.
“E no too get talent, but e dey very hard working and diligent. Fear am.” I still hold tight to the words of Mr. Ebube, one of my daddy’s former tenants.
And one is only crazy in their mind to think smart work replaces it. Success requires a balance of both. When you balance both, you move from a mere hustle culture to being strategic with the use of all your human and capital resources.
I remember having this conversation with a friend about five years ago. It’s a cousin of his who wouldn’t miss the chance to say that unlike him, he doesn't need to invest so much energy into anything because his parents were rich.
Unfortunately, he's making a valid point. If you are not handed generational wealth, hard work is the default setting.
However, do you recall this proverb about giving someone a goat?
“When you give someone a goat, you have to let go of the rope you used to tie the goat.” Well, sooner or later.
There’s only so much that generational wealth can do for those who wouldn’t lift a finger.
Sooner or later, a lazy man would be left to fend for his goat.
What will he do if he’s too lazy to get up in the morning to fetch goat meal?
Even if he chooses to hire a carer, how long will he keep up with the expenses if he’s not diligent in his business?
Eventually, what will he do with the goat? Kill it or sell it.
I am unsure if you saw this video that once trended about how inheriting substantial wealth MAY raise weak men.
Hard work is not suffering
When people who only need to work hard complain about suffering, it’s usually funny.
In my heart, I ask, “Have you actually seen someone who is suffering?”
Any slight inconvenience, and you are ducking.
For real?
Hard work is a deliberate and purposeful effort towards a goal, while suffering is often an unintentional and undesirable experience.
Hard work is sometimes uncomfortable, but it has a constructive purpose. Set a goal and work towards achieving it. You will meet challenges, yeah. But, be consistent and committed, and they may lead to positive outcomes.
But here’s the interesting link between both:
Hard work neglected today becomes the suffering of tomorrow.
It always catches up.
And if, in your journey of personal growth and development, you find anyone always running away from effort, what should you do?
RUN!
Or, keep them far away.
What if you are the guilty one? I wonder what you should do with yourself.
But remember this: Those who flee from hard work are merely postponing their inevitable encounter with it. The pain of discipline weighs ounces, but the pain of regret weighs tonnes.
Stay BAKE!
The pain of discipline weighs ounces. But the pain of regret weighs tonnes.
